"Whiskey in the Jar"
The Dubliners, arr. Jon Shepherd
As I was going over
The Killmarkenny mountains
I met with Captain Farrell
And the money he was counting
I first produced my pistol
And then pulled out my sabre
Sayin': "Stand and Deliver
For I am a bold deceiver!"
With a Ring-dum-a-doodle-um-da
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
There's Whiskey in the Jar.
I counted out his money
And it made a pretty penny.
I put it in my pocket
And I took it home to Jenny.
She sighed and she swore that
She never would deceive me
But the devil take that woman
For she never can be easy.
With a Ring-dum-a-doodle-um-da
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
There's Whiskey in the Jar.
I went into my chamber
For all to take a slumber
I dreamt of gold and jewels
And for sure it was no wonder.
But Jenny drew my charges
And she filled them up with water
Then sent for Captain Farrell
To be ready for the slaughter.
With a Ring-dum-a-doodle-um-da
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
There's Whiskey in the Jar.
'Twas early in the morning
Just before I rose to travel
Up comes a band of footmen
And likewise, Captain Farrell.
I first produced my pistol
For she stole away my sabre
But I couldn't shoot the water,
So a prisoner I was taken.
With a Ring-dum-a-doodle-um-da
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
There's Whiskey in the Jar.
(slower)
If anyone can aid me,
It's my brother in the army
If I can find his station,
In Cork or in Killarney
(getting faster)
And if he'll go a with me
We'll go roving in Kilkenny
And I'm sure he'll treat me better
Than my old a-sporting Jenny
With a Ring-dum-a-doodle-um-da
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
There's Whiskey in the Jar.
With a Ring-dum-a-doodle-um-da
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
Whack-fol-the Daddio.
There's Whiskey in the Jar.
